No Boundaries:
Self-imposed limitations

The complexity of the human mind and how it interprets the world around us is one of the most fascinating things. Well, I should qualify that statement and say it is fascinating to me. Perhaps there are more intriguing things in the world than that, but for now, just indulge my train of thought.
External factors, which originate outside the mind, can range from psychological influences that shape our perception of the world to sensory stimuli that trigger a neuromuscular reaction. So in other words, it could be psychological inputs or physiological inputs. Simply put: the outside impacts the inside. The converse is also true in this regard and perhaps an oversimplification here, but let’s move on.
One interesting phenomenon observed in psychology, for example, is the imposition of self-limiting beliefs. I am no expert in this realm, so perhaps I am not qualified to speak on it but I’ll share my thoughts regardless. Self-imposed limitations are formed by individuals, based on their belief systems and worldviews, in a way that prescribes their abilities and what they are capable of achieving. (It would be interesting to make the distinction between belief systems and worldviews, but perhaps I’ll elaborate on that in another post). In essence, our perception of reality is precisely what we believe it to be.
It is said that the belief systems we adopt are shaped based on our past experiences, our relationships with others, our upbringing, social media consumption, the educational backgrounds we have, the culture we are born into and so much more. So, experiencing moments of self-doubt and holding ourselves back seems inevitable—unless, of course, you’re a cat. They just strut around like they own the place! Seriously, shoutout to you, Billy the Cat—CEO of the living room and master of all naps! (Billy is not my cat in case you are wondering, but he is real).
No boundaries!
When it comes to reaching one’s full potential in life there really should not be any restrictions or boundaries, therefore heed the following bit of advice if you wish to rid yourself of limitations altogether, or don't …
If you want to overcome those self-imposed limits, start by challenging those negative beliefs—maybe write them down and counter them with positive affirmations! Reflect on your past successes to give your confidence a boost; jot down a few accomplishments that make you proud. Consider setting some small, achievable goals to create a sense of progress—maybe tackle one new task each week. Don’t forget to reach out to friends or mentors for encouragement; a little support can go a long way! Also, practice self-compassion by treating yourself kindly and reminding yourself that setbacks are part of the journey. Also rid yourself of the nay-sayers, the grumblebums! There are many of them out there. Lastly, those difficult conversations you have been meaning to have? Make it happen, you might just surprise yourself!
Ultimately, as my train of thought reaches its final stop it is clear, unless you’re Billy the Cat or another self-assured animal, you’re likely to encounter moments when your self-imposed limitations hold you back. I’ve certainly felt this firsthand over the past year. Even when we doubt our ability to reach our full potential, it’s crucial to show up every day and keep pushing forward.
